Frustrated by the lack of options for their autistic adult son, who has complex needs, a local Surrey family were desperate to find a way for their son to live independently. Limited existing facilities in the area meant their son could be accommodated several hours from home. The family entered into a pioneering partnership with Surrey County Council, fundraising to help deliver an innovative 10-bed supported living development.

Celebrating its rural setting, our supported living masterplan anchors homes into the landscape within a sensory garden framework.
Ten homes are created in individual and shared cottages, plus an activity centre including sensory and therapy provision.
Our design was consciously un-institutional, providing a clam, domestic space for autistic adults, their care teams and families to spend time.
Visual ‘noise’ was kept to a minimum with simple forms, considered lighting and framed views of nature.
